Brad and I were just leaving the gym. He was going on about how brutal his flexibility was (to which I had just suggested yoga).
“Just gimme a stretch for my tight hamstrings!”
But what I saw was a lot more troubling than his bad hamstring flexibility…
He moved like he should be 50 years his senior. With imbalances from old injuries. Tightness in his hips and low back. The increasingly heavy and repetitive weightlifting routines wearing on his joints…
“Telling you man,” I went on, “it’ll do wonders for that beat up body of yours.”
Shrugging it off, Brad looked at me. Replied,
“Yeah maybe… I dunno… I just can’t bend like that. You expect me to get into those pretzel poses? Not happening. Not to mention, yoga is a little ‘woo-woo’ for me.”
He finished, “Why can’t there be athletically-minded yoga for folks like me?”
